Repertorium of Modern European Coinage

Repertorium zur neuzeitlichen Münzprägung Europas

Repertory of Modern European Coinage between c. 1450 / 1500 and 1990

A team of scientists at the Institute of Numismatics and Monetary History (at the University of Vienna / Austria / Europe) is publishing a new series: "Repertorium zur neuzeitlichen Münzprägung Europas" [=Repertory of Modern European Coinage between c. 1450 / 1500 and 1990].

Therefore we are very interested in including the description of our project into your site, as we are frequently collaborating with public institutions as well as private collectors and we are always looking for further interlocutors, who are willing to help with information, photos or material.

The Research Project: Repertory of Modern European Coinage between c. 1450 / 1500 and 1990

The "Repertorium" is not only meant as a tool for numismatists, but also for coin collectors, coin dealers and everyone historically interested.

Each volume of the "Repertory" follows the same system, providing all necessary information arranged according to the estates of coinage and main texts written in English and German:

Lists of regents, genealogical overviews, coats of arms, territorial maps, historical basic information, lists of mints, wide ranging bibliographies and illustrations of coins. The main part is the tabular representation of coinage activity, which - arranged according to mints - documents the denominations and the chronology and offers help with the classification of coins through references to standard literature.

The present volume: Southeastern Europe: Transylvania, Romania, South-Slavic-Albanian Area, Bulgaria, Greek-Aegean Area is going to be printed in september 1999 (if this is your special collecting field: please contact me soon, there are some photos of espec. rare coins / patterns missing!)

In preparation are the volumes:

"The Franconian Imperial Circle" as well as "Austrian Hereditary Lands and Silesia".

"The Bavarian Imperial Circle" (volume II) and many more books published by the Instiute of Numismatics (see: VIN: Publications of the Institute of Numismatics and Monetary History, Vienna, at the end of this page) are already available. (Please contact: Österreichische Forschungsgesellschaft für Numismatik, oefn.numismatik@univie.ac.at for further information).

More about the Vienna Institute of Numismatics and Monetary History, eg a list of numismatic lectures, that will be read (in German only) during the next semester at our Institute you will find at our homepage: www.univie.ac.at/Numismatik/

1) If your are especially interested in the coinage of the Balkan Countries of Southeastern Europe - respectively the other regions named above (Franconia, Austria and Silesia) - you are invited to contact me (Michaela.Heintz@univie.ac.at) as soon as possible! I´ll send immediately a list of wanted fotos / scans, if you tell me your special collecting field !

At the moment I´m especially searching for photos or scans of two very rare coins:

7500 Leke, 1988 (gold) minted in Budapest for Albania (Republika Popullore Socialiste e Shqiperise) (references: Krause-Mishler 64; Schön, Weltmünzkatalog 64; pattern: 64 note) pattern of: 100 Drachmai 1855 (gold) minted in Vienna for Otto of Bavaria, King of Greece (reference: Krause-Mishler Pn27)

· Photos / Scans: Technical requirements for photos or scans would be:

1.photo: black/white, original size or size in cm; 2.scan: grayscale, in original size, 100 % scaling, 300 dpi. I´d prefer TIF-format, if possible, but BMP would also do (JPG is already compressed, when I convert it again, it looses quality). (Please take care, that the contrasts are sharp, but the picture should have several gray- shades to be nice.)
